The Story of NPORS: The Accreditation Scheme That Revolutionised the Construction Industry

Since its establishment in 1992, the National Plant Operators Registration Scheme (NPORS) has established itself as a leading accreditation and registration body in the UK. NPORS is a versatile organisation that caters to a wide range of sectors, including Construction, Industrial, Utilities, Warehousing and Distribution, Agricultural, Ports, and Marine.

NPORS has been a member of The Accrediting Bodies Association (ABA) since its inception, and it collaborates with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) to provide training advice in accordance with L117. With a strong emphasis on maintaining standards and providing flexibility, NPORS works closely with industry experts and Accredited Training Providers such as Quality Safety Training to ensure compliance at both national and international levels.

NPORS is rapidly establishing itself as an authoritative plant training program in the United Kingdom. Despite not accruing as much widespread recognition as the CPCS card scheme, NPORS training and testing has progressively improved over time, and numerous construction firms now prefer it.

Moreover, Build UK, the UK construction industry’s foremost representative body, has approved NPORS training. What sets NPORS training apart is its flexibility since it can be provided on-site, not just at a training centre. Additionally, the program has aligned itself with CSCS, enabling training cards to bear the CSCS logo after operatives pass the appropriate HS&E test.

Furthermore, NPORS now offer plant operators the opportunity to progress their skills and competency by providing Trained Operator and Experienced Operator cards, depending on the operator’s level of experience. These can be achieved via an NVQ.

NPORS Red Trained Operator card – CSCS Embossed (2-year validity)
